Recap-Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? S2.E37 (July 3, 2008)

Mandy Palm:

  • Q1 (1st Grade U.S. Geography): “Washington state borders which ocean?” Pacific, correct.

  • Q3 (2nd Grade Music): “The tambourine is a member of what musical family?” Percussion, correct.
  • Q4 (3rd Grade Nature): “Acorns come from what species of tree?” Pine tree, incorrect (oak tree is the correct answer). Luckily, Mackenzie saves her.
  • Q5 (3rd Grade Math): “If Nathan can sharpen 9 pencils in 15 minutes and Mackenzie can sharpen 12 pencils in 20 minutes, how many pencils can the two of them combined sharpen in an hour?” She peeks at Nathan’s paper. He wrote 72 so she goes with that answer. They are both correct.
  • Q6 (4th Grade Anatomy): “The metacarpal bones are found in what part of the human body? A. Hand, B. Foot, C. Hip” She copies Nathan’s paper. He wrote A, which is the correct answer.
  • Q7 (1st Grade Science): “For centuries, silk used in clothing has traditionally come from which animal? A. Spiders, B. Lambs, C. Caterpillars” Caterpillars, correct.
  • Q8 (4th Grade World Geography): “The Matterhorn is part of what mountain range?” She drops out with her $100,000. The answer was the Alps (she was almost positive it was the Himalayas).

Kamron Kadjar:

  • Q5 (1st Grade Grammar): “”Haven’t” is a contraction of what two words?” Have not, correct.
  • Q6 (3rd Grade U.S. History): “True or false? Benjamin Franklin served as a senator from Pennsylvania.” He peeks at Olivia’s paper. She wrote false but Kamron says true (knowing that he is safe no matter what). The answer is false so Kamron loses his save.
  • Q7 (5th Grade Cultural Studies): “What Aztec emperor of the 16th century was overthrown by Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortez and his army?” He drops out with his $50,000. The answer was Montezuma.

Tonight’s TV Recommendations (July 3rd, 2008)

8/7 C

You pretty much have two choices at 8/7 C. You can either get a good laugh or you can laugh at yourself or loved ones when you miss that first grade question. NBC has a new two hour episode of Last Comic Standing while Fox has a new Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? I think I will check out the second group of Las Vegas auditions on Last Comic Standing since most of the funniest comics of the season will be performing in this episode.

9/8 C

9/9 C is pretty much the comedy hour. The laughs continue on Last Comic Standing. This hour we will also find out the last five finalists for Last Comic Standing. TBS has a good pair of comedies with The Bill Engvall Show and My Boys. If you don’t want to laugh at jokes you might want to laugh at some stupid criminals on truTV (Smoking Gun Presents: World’s Dumbest Criminals). I’ll be sticking with NBC and Last Comic Standing.

10/9 C

There is quite a few shows on at 10/9 C. ABC has a new Hopkins while CBS has a new Swingtown. If you want some fear in your Thursday night NBC has a new Fear Itself. Cable also has several offerings. Bravo has a new Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, HGTV has a new House Hunters, MTV has a new Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew, TLC has a new Miami Ink, and finally Travel Channel has a Samantha Brown: Passport to Great Weekends. With all these choice I will probably still pass since none of these options really appeal to me.

So tonight I will be watching Last Comic Standing, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, and The Bill Engvall show.
